TimeSplitters 4 is NOT in development, confirms CrytekTimeSplitters 4 is not in development, Crytek has allegedly confirmed this afternoon, dismissing reports that work on a sequel is well under way at the developer’s UK studio.

Speaking to CVG, a spokesperson for Crytek UK said, “no, [TimeSplitters 4 is] not in development,” joking that the team had “spent all of the development budget on buying monkeys.”

A fourth game in the TimeSplitters series has been rumoured to be in development at Crytek UK, formally known as Free Radical, for many years.

Back in 2007, the studio claimed that work on the game was in the “very early concept stages”, but that it had yet to be snapped up by a publisher.

It later released concept art via its website.

Then, earlier this week, OXM UK claimed that “trusted sources” had contacted the publication to say that they’d “seen TimeSplitters 4 running”, rumours Crytek UK refutes.

The TimeSplitters series has been on a hiatus since the 2005 release of TimeSplitters: Future Perfect.

The development team later went on to develop PS3 flop Haze, before being snapped up by Crytek in 2009 and rebranded Crytek UK.

The team is currently expected to be developing Homefront 2 for THQ.
