Sledgehammer Games’ co-founder Glen Schofield has revealed that his team has been working with Infinity Ward on Modern Warfare 3 "for the last year".
"For the last year together, Sledgehammer Games and IW have been creating and developing Modern Warfare 3," said Schofield during Modern Warfare 3′s unveiling at a press conference held in London earlier this week.
"Sledgehammer Games is of course thrilled to be working with IW on Modern Warfare 3," he added.
And the team’s efforts have been appreciated by Call of Duty creators Infinity Ward, with Creative Strategist Robert Bowling having this say about Schofield’s team:
"Coming out of Modern Warfare 2 we had a big vision for Modern Warfare 3," he said, "things we wanted to add and deliver to fans this November 8th, 2011.
"So we had to take a step back, we learned how we could execute that and luckily we found an entire studio with the same passion for the franchise, shared vision, and creative skillset at Sledgehammer Games."
Sledgehammer Games was founded in August 2009 by ex-Visceral Games studio heads Glen Schofield and Michael Condrey. It was reported that the team had originally been working on an ‘action-adventure’ Call of Duty spin-off, presumed not to be a first-person shooter.
However, following the mass-resignation of Infinity Ward employees in early 2010, it was revealed on Sledgehammer’s site that the team was working on an FPS Call of Duty, prompting speculation that the action-adventure game had been put on hold to work on Modern Warfare 3.
The timeline of events concurs with Schofield’s comments of Sledgehammer working with Infinity Ward "for the last year".
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 launches on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC on November 8th, 2011. Could Sledgehammer Games’ action-adventure Call of Duty ever see the light of day?
