Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 co-developer Sledgehammer Games is developing an ‘unannounced high-end console title’, a job listing for the studio has revealed.
The job advertisement, which was spotted on Gamasutra, reveals that Sledgehammer is “actively recruiting top talent for (its) Call of Duty development team”, adding that the ideal candidate “will be involved in the creation of multiplayer game modes and online community features” for the game.
Could the team be working on a brand new Call of Duty already? Possibly, but the fact that the game appears to only be on console suggests that it may be something new entirely…
Sledgehammer Games recently co-developed Modern Warfare 3 alongside series creators Infinity Ward.
But studio boss Glen Schofield told us earlier in the year that he’d like to see Sledgehammer given a shot at making a Call of Duty game by themselves.
“I want to make at least one more first-person shooter,” Glen told GamerZines. “I want to get really good at it.
“I would definitely, 100% work with Infinity Ward again because they’re just the best. But I wouldn’t mind giving Sledgehammer a shot on something.”
The team had previously been working on a third-person Call of Duty set outside of the modern era which, in Schofield’s own words, featured an atmosphere ‘like Dead Space’. The project is rumoured to have been cancelled.
Next year’s Call of Duty is expected to be developed by Call of Duty: Black Ops developer Treyarch. The game is rumoured to be codenamed ‘Iron Wolf’.
