Mike Hayes is to step down from his position as CEO of SEGA Europe and America during the summer, the firm has announced.
Hayes leaves SEGA after 8 years of running the firm’s Western divisions to pursue his interests in “advisory and non-exec roles both in and outside of the industry”.
Hayes isn’t stepping away from SEGA completely, however. According to the firm, he’ll retain a position at the company in an ‘advisory role’.
Hayes has been a key factor in SEGA’s success in recent years, leading the charge to acquire Football Manager studio Sports Interactive and Total War studio Creative Assembly.
He also established the now-defunct SEGA Racing Studio, which developed 2007 360/PS3 racer SEGA Rally.
“Mike has achieved a huge amount during his time at SEGA and we thank him for the amazing things he has accomplished,” said Naoya Tsurumi, President and Representative Director.
“Mike is a great character and very passionate about the industry, he helped steer the extraordinary growth of SEGA and has built an exceptional team of professionals that will stand us in good stead for the future.”
