In an exclusive interview with GamerZines, TimeGate Studios president Adel Chaveleh has listed the problems which he believed limited Section 8′s success when it was released in 2009.
We asked Mr Chaveleh whether Section 8: Prejudice is better placed to be a success than the original and his response was encouraging.
"This has been our story at TimeGate Studios. Another game we did, Cohan, came out ahead of its time, so we ended up with Cohan 2 coming out and refining what we already had done; building a bridge back to where all of the run of a mill RTS games were," mused the co-founder.
"That’s basically what we are doing now too, Section 8 had a lot of mechanics. Maybe the way we packaged it wasn’t as accessible as it should have been, so now we’ve done a lot of refinements and we’re building a bridge back."
"Timing didn’t help with the original Section 8 as well, it was released within weeks of Halo: ODST. We didn’t have the strength at retail that our competitors had, so from a business side we have formulated some strategies on how it can make a bigger splash, how to be stickier, how to be more accessible and how to draw a bigger audience."
These new strategies are no doubt a result of TimeGate Studios assuming publishing duties themselves, which the CEO assured us was out of choice rather than necessity. A move which has allowed the Texan developer to shrink the price of the game to only 1200 MS points or around $12.99, which will undoubtedly energise more players to get involved.
Despite Prejudice being priced at less than half the cost of the original, players will get to enjoy a compelling campaign and a co-op survival mode for the first time, in addition to the competitive ticket-based Conquest mode.
A final release date has yet to be set for this digital-only shooter, but we’ve been assured it’ll be released before the end of this quarter.
