Microsoft are saying that over half of their Xbox Live’s 25 million members have subscribed to Gold accounts.
This news was confirmed by Microsoft’s head of Interactive Entertainment Business, Dennis Durkin, who told attendees at the Credit Suisse Annual Technology Conference on Wednesday that:
"Of our 25 million members, about half of them are subscribers to the business and pay us about $60 a year for that,"
"So it’s a very large business for us and for our partners."
Current Gold subscriptions run an annual fee of around £35 giving gamers access to online gaming, exclusive downloads and discounts as well as Last.FM and Sky Player.
According to Microsoft, US Gold members use the service for more than three hours a day on average.
The service originally launched in 2003 on the original Xbox.
Xbox Live generates over $1 billion annually with an extensive library of content to purchase as well as films, dlc and full game downloads.
