Microsoft is in the process of phasing out glossy Xbox 360s, Xbox Live’s Major Nelson has confirmed, revealing that glossy Xbox 360s will no longer be available to buy once current stocks have sold through.
Instead, all slim Xbox 360 will now be finished in a matte black, a finish previously exclusive to the 4GB SKU.
“We are actively transitioning all our Xbox 360 S consoles to a matte finish,” said Major Nelson speaking on his blog. “The consoles will start to arrive in stores over the coming weeks, so if you really love the idea of a glossy console don’t wait much longer.”
Up until now, all 250GB Xbox 360 Slims had been furnished with a glossy exterior shell, with the 4GB Slims finished in a matte black.
Nelson confirmed that the gloss finish will be returning for future limited edition consoles, though.
“Of course, we still may offer a gloss finish on Limited Edition consoles like the upcoming Gears of War 3 Console or the Star Wars Console,” Major Nelson continued, “but if you have your eye on a glossy black console you don’t have much time left.”
Glossy black 250GB Xbox 360 consoles currently RRP at £199.99. Grab one while you can.
