Arcade experiences “don’t sequel well”, according to creative director Cory Ledesma.
In an exclusive interview with GamerZines, creative director Cory Ledesma has offered some insights into why THQ would be apprehensive about bankrolling a sequel to WWE All Stars.
“I think that obviously since we released WWE All Stars we saw that there was a market for that – a desire to have that kind of experience. Historically with all other sports franchises, those games do well the first time out, but they don’t sequel well,” he explained.
“I don’t think they [arcade games] have as much potential to be different year to year. Simulation titles tend to do the best, and these other compliment titles are great – they play the supporting role really well. If you want a break from the simulation title by having a different experience, I think they serve that purpose well. Maybe it’s a different title, maybe something else WWE-related can fill that void.”
The big stumbling block is that the developer behind WWE All Stars, THQ San Diego ,was infamously closed during E3 this year after THQ announced that they had sold the UFC license to EA for an undisclosed fee. Mr Ledesma also explained to us that there is a potential to confuse the marketplace if there’s too many WWE games released during a year potentially cannibalising the audience; splitting it to buy one WWE game while the other is potentially neglected.
Still, we’re a bit surprised that there isn’t more of a will from THQ to put out WWE All Stars 2. The premise of wrestlers from the past facing off against modern superstars is a fantastic one, and the fighting system offered some of the most genuinely enjoyable gameplay the WWE license has boasted in years.
What do you think? Do you want WWE All Stars 2 or should this potential franchise remain untapped?

I want WWE ALLSTARS 2 more than anything else. I am not much of a fan of today’s wrestlers and I don’t watch anymore, but playing WWE ALLSTARS helped me to learn about the new wrestlers such as CM Punk. My step father loves old old school wrestlers, I love the late 80′s-early 00′s wrestling, and my younger brother and cousin love today’s wrestlers. It’s been fun kicking my cousin and little brothers butts with the old school wrestlers and they love it too. Like me playing with Chris Jericho and them CM PUNK. We Love it but we need more!
I want a WWE All Stars MORE than ANY OTHER TYPE OF WRESTING GAME!!! These WWE 12, WWE 13 games & the whole Smackdown Vs Raw franchise are just same old same old every year, maybe the odd new little feature but that’s about it, the game play is not even half as enjoyable either, with All Stars it was a BREATH OF FRESH AIR, something new, fast paced, fun, looked great & I just LOVED it, I tried out WWE 12, it was ok, but no where near as fun as All Stars was, I won’t be buying WWE 13 because I really don’t have that much interest in it, if they released an All Stars 2, then I would be there straight away with no hesitation.
I know the WWE 12/WWE 13 franchise have a good solid fanbase, however the games are boring give & take a few modes & they become stale very quickly for me, which is why I don’t really like them, I hated the SvR games & although WWE 12 was a big improvement, when it comes to something along the lines of All Stars there’s no competition.
It’s sad because when All Stars came I couldn’t believe it, ever since Wrestlefest back in the arcade a game like this was cried out for but always ignored, then THQ brought this & it was unbelievable, something I thought would never happen.
Now however, it looks like we’re being ignored again & they are only catering for those in the ‘safe’ market of simulation games, boring, uninventive & very disappointing.
Just make the effin’ game and let us worry about how well it sell….in that order.
Make another WWE All Stars Game (2) Because that would be te best in my opinion & its better then any other wrestling ever or soon to be out. Btw Big Show was obviously the best on All Stars anyway ….. just sayin !!!!
The public wants an All-Stars 2, especially since there are numerous different wrestlers and styles of wrestling. Another game would easily be boosted by additional game modes, attires, and events. Other WWE games do not compare. Let the public decide…
WWE Allstars 2 is a NEEDED game! It would outsell the first one for sure! I have it on 360,PSP, & PS3. Eveyone I know loves the Allstars wrestling waaaayyyy more than WWE12,WWE13,ect..Even my dad who’s 61 really enjoys playing WWE Allstars! He and I followed wrestling back in the early 80′s-90′s. And I kinda quit watching it by 2001. Then I bought a few WWE games in the early 00′s and didn’t like them much. Look, put me in charge of what to do to the sequel & it’ll be on!!!! Add this to the sequel:
Royal Rumble matches
System link (for up to 8 players @ a house) (I got 2 360′s and will buy two copies so my son, brothers, friends can play system link)
Keep all the first games roster (including DLC on the disc) and add these wrestlers:
Papa Sango
Bam Bam Bigelow
Ric Flair
Junkyard Dog
Hercules Hernandes
Koko B. Ware
Earthquake
Tito Santana
King Kong Bundy
Razor Ramon
Doink The Clown
Bobby Lashley
Brodus Clay
Damien Sandow
Wade Barrett
British Bulldog
Ryback
I promise that would make it sell crazy!!! Also add the ability to win and defend belts (old schools and current). Also in create a player mode, allow custom soundtracks. BOOM….! Now you got me willing to shell out even $75.00 for a game like that!
WWE ALL STARS SHOULD BE ON PS4 ITS THE FUTER OF WRESTLING GAMES. NO MORE WWE 12 OR 13 WE WANT WWE ALSTARSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
