Bungie is making “incredible progress” on its “genre-defining new IP”, Activision CEO Eric Hirshberg has said.
Speaking in Activision’s investor relations call last night, Hirshberg said that the firm is continuing to “lay the foundation for our new universe from Bungie.”
“Bungie continues to make incredible progress on what we expect to be a genre-defining new IP that will provide us with tremendous new opportunities and which remains one of our key strategic growth pillars for the future.”
Both Bungie and Activision have kept tight-lipped over the new IP, which is expected to ship next year.
The game is rumoured to be a science fiction-themed, massively multiplayer title.
Activision announced in April 2010 that it had secured a 10 year publishing deal with Halo’s creators, which grants Activision the exclusive rights to publish games created in the new franchise for the first decade.
Bungie will still own the intellectual property itself, however.
Bungie’s last game, Halo: Reach, shipped in September 2010.
Development duties of the multi-million series has since been handed over to 343 Industries.
The team is currently developing this year’s Halo 4, which is expected to be shown for the first time later this month.
