After yesterday’s story that Criterion chief Alex Ward is fond of the idea of a 3DS Burnout, it got us thinking about the potential for some last-gen games that would benefit from the 3D treatment. Here’s a rundown
5. F ZERO GX
The machine has already shown itself more than capable of handling fast-moving racing action, and there’s few faster than SEGA and Nintendo’s collaboration, F Zero GX. F Zero has always proven a furtive ground for handheld racing, and this could be its finest hour. Make it happen.
4. LUIGI’S MANSION
What was once a criminally short Gamecube launch title would now comfortably sit amongst most modern games in terms of length, and vastly outshine them with its creativity. With clever use of the 3D to freshen up some of the puzzles and that added layer of depth to the mansion, this would be a treat.
3. OKAMI
We’ve had Okamiden on DS recently, and it’s a furry delight, but surely the 3DS could do its big brother justice. Okami is a wonderful piece of work that never managed to get the audience it deserved. Imagine those beautiful wood-carved graphics in 3d. Sumptuous.
2. VIEWTIFUL JOE
Yes, it’s a 2D game, but the depth and slow-mo zooming would look so good in 3D it just has to happen. Viewtiful Joe is a fantastically snappy and stylistic brawler, the type of creative videogame that doesn’t seem to get play on major consoles these days. The 3DS would be the perfect new home for the little red guy.
1. REZ
It was never in doubt, was it. If ever something deserved to go 3D, it was Rez. Yes, you’d lose some of the intensity that comes from the rumble, but that’s a small sacrifice to make for one of gaming’s most artistically accomplished games having that kind of depth and clarity. Come on Mizuguchi-san, you can do it.
