If you’re one of many Xbox 360 gamers who asked Santa for a Kinect this Christmas, you’ve probably exhausted the peripheral’s line up of sports and dancing games.
You’re probably looking for a few reasons to keep the camera set up in the living room. We’ll we’ve got a few, in fact we’ve got 11 reasons for you to get off the count and waving your arms around with Kinect this year.
1: Expand your mind with Child of Eden – Ubisoft & Q Entertainment
Child of Eden is the kind of experience you’d get from downing the liquid contained in glow sticks and going wild in an aquarium. Luckily you no longer have to go to all that trouble as Q Entertainment has turned it into a game of sensory overload. If past title Rez is anything to go by, prepare to have your mind blown in many directions.
2: Get nerdy with Dr. Kawashima’s Brain and Body Exercise -Namco Bandai
Noted for his popular DS series that seen Terry Wogan selling his soul on the tellybox, Dr Kawashima is bringing his Brain & Body Exercises to Kinect. Designed to be as fun as they are cerebral, friends can join in as you stretch your limbs and get that brain matter moving around with gaming’s most familiar floating head doctor.
3:Practice your throw with Project D -Grasshopper Entertainment
When he’s not posing on the toilet or weeping over a Joy Division CD, Goichi Suda or ‘Suda 51′ likes to make games and damn good ones at that. His latest pitch (excuse the pun) involves tossing flaming baseballs at goons dressed in tiger masks and bunny outfits. Sounds odd but any Suda fans should find the idea electrifying.
4: Get behind the wheel with Forza Motorsport 4 – Turn 10 & Microsoft Game Studios
Forza Motorsport is back to bring you closer to a tantalising array of expensive cars allowing you to take the wheel and accelerate past the competition without having to spin around the room ala Kinect Joy Ride. You’ll even be able to examine these automobiles up close – exploring their inner details and peeking under the hood. Mechaphiles rejoice!
5: Become a sharp shooter with The Gunstringer – Twisted Pixel Games
We find puppets frightening. However, if you love marionettes and have been craving more Wild West antics since Red Dead Redemption then be sure to check out The Gunstringer, the latest creation from those brilliant minds at Twisted Pixel Games. Taking control of a menacing puppet cowboy, players will take aim through a number of levels on foot and on horseback. Yee-ha!
6: Learn the ways of the force with Kinect Star Wars – LucasArts & Microsoft Games Studios
Since the dawn of motion control, gamers have longed for the chance to draw lightsabres and do battle against the darkside like a pro. Dreams will creep closer to reality with Kinect as you deflect lasers, use Jedi powers to wind your foes and finally do battle with Vader himself. A force to be reckoned with? We think so.
7: Scare yourself silly with Rise of Nightmares – Sega
Who says Kinect is all about busting moves and petting virtual tigers? Clearly these people haven’t seen SEGA’s Rise of Nightmares: a bone-chilling fright fest borrows from the likes of Silent Hill and SAW to bring jumpy thrills to Microsoft’s motion device. We wouldn’t suggest cracking this out after a family game of Dance Central.
8: Fight a war with Steel Battalion: Heavy Armour – Capcom & From Software
Reknown for bundling a two-stick, 40 button controller in the box, the Steel Battalion series will return to Xbox 360 and has opted to drop the pricey pad. Swapping its monster peripherals for a Kinect sensor, Heavy Armour will throw gamers in the cockpits of a bulky bipedal robot with motion controls are your disposal. Just how will it work? We’re begging to find out!
9: Get cheap thrills from Haunt – NanaOn-Sha
Unlike Sega’s gruesome Rise of Nightmares, Haunt is a much different spectre. Parappa the Rapper might be the most popular hit under his belt but Masaya Matsuura’s haunted house looks like a virtual amusement park ride with cartoon ghouls and unpredictable suits of armour to shine your torch at.
10: Socialise with friends over Avatar Kinect – Microsoft
Sometimes voice chat just isn’t enough. If you know someone in need of an intervention, why not invite them to Avatar Kinect, a social experience in which you and your friend’s avatars will interact with facial recognition picking up your smirks, smiles and raised eyebrows.
11: Loose that holiday weight with Your Shape: Fitness Evolved DLC – Ubisoft
Many new year resolutions have people to forking out ridiculous amounts of cash on gym membership. But why leave the house when you can work out at home and rake in the achievements in Your Shape: Fitness Evolved. There are over 12 new downloadable workouts coming throughout the year from Bollywood-inspired activities to a ‘New Year New You’ to help shift those holiday pounds.
