As far as marketing hype goes, this is pretty radical. Everyone knows that Ubisoft commissioned their own visual effects specialists, Hybride Technologies, to make a selection of live action episodes as a prelude to Assassin's Creed 2.

Assassins Creed II
New developer diary trailer, in which they discuss Ezio's progression during the game from simple assassin to grand master, along with some of the new features included.
What nobody guessed is that the first episode is actually really good with some great production values and some interesting concepts.

Assassins Creed II
New developer diary trailer for the upcoming sequel in which developers Ubisoft talk about the enemies you will come up against and the weapons implemented in the game.
Some of you may remember Hybride Technologies for their groundbreaking work with 300 and Sin City, where they successfully combined CGI with live action participants. Ubisoft's CEO, Yves Guillemot, had this to say:

We aren't sure if this technique is something that we'll see with other franchises like Rainbow Six or Splinter Cell, but Ubisoft have already proved they can pull it off. The opening episode lasts fifteen minutes and we found it to be very enjoyable.

Obviously we aren't film critics and this project won't win any awards but it certainly got us more excited about Assassin's Creed 2.

Assassin's Creed 2 is out on November 20th for 360 and PS3 with a PC version making an appearance early next year. From what we've played so far it's shaping up really well and solves many of the complaints gamers had with the original.
