The oft-rumoured sequel to open-world carnage sim Prototype has received the no-comment treatment from Activision, with an Acti rep telling GamerZines that "they can't comment on rumours and speculation."

Better than a flatout denial, then. The rumour mill began after a Linkedin post from former Radical designer Malcolm Wilson described his last eight working months as spent on an Unnannounced Project, one that happened to coincide directly with his time finishing work on the original Prototype.

A sequel does seem likely, though. Activision is a company that bases much of its business structure on franchises, with CEO Bobby Kotick famously implying that his business was only interested in IP that can be "exploited every year across every platform with clear sequel potential".

That's the kind of talk that bodes well for those wanting a Prototype follow-up, especially as the original sold in excess of 1.5 million copies during a traditionally quiet period for the games industry.

We'll stay with this story and bring you and news as and when it happens.
