If someone buys the game second hand, they'll then have to purchase the code from EA for $10 dollars.
The second hand games debate continues to rage on, but it's hard to argue with a business wanting to ensure that the majority of its game's sales earn them profit, as opposed to retail reselling multiple times.
Talking to BusinessWeek, Riccitiello outlayed the plan, as well as confirming that EA is latching multiplayer onto all of its releases in FY2011. Signs that the company is shifting its strategy back towards exploitable profit - a good idea, considering its recent losses.
