Army of Two: The 40th Day Producer Matt Turner has explained the reason behind his title's January release date, telling GamerZines that going "toe-to-toe with Modern Warfare 2 would be a silly thing to do."
"There's a lot of hullabaloo before Christmas," said Turner. "I mean, to go toe-to-toe with Modern Warfare 2 I think would be a silly thing to do."
Do tell us more, Matt... Is Modern Warfare 2 ultimately the reason for not releasing Army of Two until after Christmas?
"I don't know. There's a lot to it. There's a lot of noise at Christmas right now and it's really hard to rise above that in that crowded window.

And everyone would have had a good few weeks to finish Modern Warfare 2 and Assassin's Creed and all that."
Though Army of Two: The 40th Day's 'Winter' release has meant that the title has never officially been delayed, it seems bizarre to us to not want to capitalise on any potential Christmas sales unless there are concerns over competition.
Other titles originally due for release this year include Singularity, Max Payne 3, BioShock 2, Red Dead Redemption, Dark Void and Splinter Cell: Conviction, but all have been pushed back to 2010 resulting in a relatively dry Winter 09 period.
While none of those games' respective publishers have outright blamed Modern Warfare 2 as the reason behind their delay, many suspect it to be the case.
Army of Two: The 40th Day releases on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PSP on January 8th 2010. We'll have the rest of our exclusive interview with Matt up on the site later in the week.
