Daft Punk confirmed for DJ Hero

Forget Shirley Manson, Matt Bellamy, Kurt Cobain and Johnny Cash - if you really want a music game where the celebs are, it has to be Activision's upcoming DJ Hero, which seems to be adding new contributors on a weekly basis (or that could just be clever PR stage-managing, we're not sure).

Anyway, the latest addition to the all-scratching, all-sampling Beatmania-inspired DJ sim is the Grammy-nominated French duo Daft Punk, who presumably won't be quite so offended at their digital versions playing other people's records as Kurt Cobain's missus.

Indeed, the pair have contributed eleven original mixes to the game, including two so-called 'Megamixes', using just their own music. Examples of the mixes include the following:

Daft Punk "Around the World" vs. Young MC "Bust A Move"

Daft Punk "Da Funk" vs. NASA "Strange Enough ft. Karen O, ODB and Fatlip"

Daft Punk "Da Funk" vs. Queen "Another One Bites the Dust"

Daft Punk "Robot Rock" vs. Queen "We Will Rock You"

Daft Punk "Short Circuit" vs. Boogie Down Productions "Jack Of Spades"

Daft Punk "Technologic" vs. Gary Numan "Cars"

Daft Punk "Television Rules The Nation" vs. No Doubt "Hella Good"

It's all about 3 and 7 for us. But over to VP of Music Affairs for the Guitar Hero franchise, Tim Riley..."Partnering with Daft Punk is a rare opportunity in any medium and we are extremely honored to have worked with them so closely on integrating into DJ Hero in such a compelling way. This is the first time in a video game that fans will have this kind of direct interaction with Daft Punk while also experiencing never-before-released mixes that feature some of their most popular tracks. It's amazing working with Daft Punk as they are the quintessential electronic music act known around the world for their unique style and music."

Can't argue with that, really. The figure's up to 93 on-disc mixes at the moment and counting. Though we imagine by now that developer FreeStyle Games has enough for a good few months' worth of downloadable content.
