Ubisoft has said that the reception from gamers for its latest Assassin's Creed title has been "overwhelmingly positive", revealing that the game has sold over 1.6 million copies worldwide within its first week of release.

The launch trailer for the new sequel by Ubisoft which is due out today. Featuring Ezio the new assassin who's out for vengeance on those behind his fathers death.According to Ubi, that figure is 32% up on the first week sales of the original Assassin's Creed, which shot straight to the top of the charts when it launched back in November 2007.

This was despite Modern Warfare 2 showing an 84 percent decline in week on week sales in the UK.
Assassin's Creed II is on sale now on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. A PC version is set to follow in the new year.
