Sometimes ten just isn't enough and during our many, many discussions about our Games of the Decade feature, there were a few titles that didn't quite make the cut. However that doesn't mean that they didn't shape gaming in their own way and they often formed the basis of some of our most treasured gaming memories:
Gears of War (2006 - Xbox 360)
This was the first must-have title for Microsoft's second attempt at a gaming console and prompted Epic to move from PC to console development. Based on the revolutionary Unreal 3 engine it had visuals which were immediately recognised as some of the most powerful in the entire industry. It was no wonder then than some of gaming's most high profile developers utilised this technology, like BioWare, Gearbox, Raven to name but a few. We could also mention the cover mechanic, but everyone knows that came from Kill.Switch.
Star Wars: Knights of Old Republic (2003 - Xbox)

For many gamers this was the first time moral decisions were deliberately ambiguous and it's a trend which continues today. This is also fondly remembered for having one of the greatest plot twists of all time and even seven years it still seems wrong to spoil it.
God of War (2005 - Playstation 2)
Kratos set the bar for third person action games everywhere when this Playstation exclusive was released in 2005. Who knew that Greek mythology could form the basis for such a great game? If the plot didn't interest you, the brutal combat and uncompromising violence of the lead protagonist would see you through. This title inspired many copy cats, but even after five years this standard has never been bettered.
Project Gotham Racing 2 (2003 - Xbox)
For many this was the first racing title to do online competition right. PGR may not have been as significant as Gran Turismo or Forza Motorsport, but it was unrivalled when it came to accessibility and fun. Joining matches was without complication and earning Kudos whilst playing online kept you driving even when languishing in last position. Some of this writers fondest memories were driving around Nordschleife playing Cat and Mouse. If that isn't honourable what is?
We're sure there are plenty of other titles which you think deserve an honourable mention for Game of the Decade, so feel free to pop them in the suggestions box below.
