WINNER - UNCHARTED 2: AMONG THIEVES
Taking a similar format to yesterday's Shooting Game Of The Year Modern Warfare 2, Among Thieves' three areas of play - campaign, co-op and multiplayer - ensured that Naughty Dog had all bases covered when it came to providing the ultimate action/adventure game this year. Featuring an engaging and compelling narrative intertwined with best in class gameplay, Among Thieves was one of those rare games that seemed to do almost everything perfectly, managing to hook you in right up until the end credits. Among Thieves took us on an incredible, heartfelt journey through Tibet on the search for a lost land. Not only our favourite action/adventure game 0f 2009, Uncharted 2 confidently shot up the ranks as one of our favourite games ever made, and the greatest game available on PS3.

At under ten hours the story may come up a little short and we would have liked to have seen the Riddler feature a bit more prominently than just providing puzzles, but this title reminded everyone that a game based on an existing comic-book franchise needn't be sub-par. And with Arkham Asylum 2 already in development, Batman fans finally have a series that they can rely on.
RUNNER UP - GTA: CHINATOWN WARS
Will GTA ever cease to amaze us? Disregarding the 3D format of recent games in the series for the classic top-down view of the original titles, the first and only DS GTA effortlessly captured the humour, charm and addictive nature of the series in one fell swoop, before bundling it in with innovative touch-screen controls. Of course, that the once-DS exclusive didn't sell as well as expected turned out to be a mixed blessing, with Rockstar deciding to port the title over to the technologically superior PSP. But which version's better? We honestly can't decide. Stronger graphics or more immersive controls? While we can't make that decision for you, whichever version you choose, you're guaranteed a rollickingly enjoyable tour of Liberty City as you've never seen it before.
