2010 sees the return of the Microsoft only event dubbed X10. This is the first time 'The Big M' have hosted their own event since X08 and we're hoping they'll be plenty of surprises in store on February 11th. Here are our picks and what announcements will be made:
Halo Reach: Date for Beta launch confirmed
Let's start off with an easy one as X10 provides the perfect platform for Bungie to announce when the highly anticipated Halo Reach beta will launch. Slated for release sometime in spring there's already been a few legitimate looking screen grabs appearing on various news sites and in reality if they don't announce a date here, when will they?
Fable 3: More Information
Barely a month ago we heard about the tentative release date for Lionhead's latest take on the fantasy genre. This time you'll have hands-on control over Albion in the role of the king with even more consequences for your actions. It would be no surprise if there was a short gameplay demo shown, or perhaps Molyneaux would like to announce support for a cat rather than a dog for this sequel.
PGR 5: In development
GamerZines last reported on a rumour about Turn 10 Studios working on Bizarre Creations' former baby in November and even though there hasn't been any more reports of Microsoft engineers recording sounds of rare Teslas, that doesn't mean that Project Gotham Racing is dead. The last entry in this franchise was released in 2007 and it's looking increasingly likely that Microsoft will soon have something to say about this arcade racer.
Dead Rising 2: Gameplay footage
Capcom aren't doing a great job of promoting this one. Whether the Japanese publisher doesn't want to get its fingers burnt again by building anticipation for another Western developed title is unclear, but fans everywhere are clamouring for more info. Before last year's VGAs Dead Rising 2 gameplay footage was rumoured to feature in the shows line-up, yet it never materialised. Surely it's time to let the zombie cat out of the bag, and tell everyone if the controversial save system returns or not.
Crackdown 2: On stage demo and release date
Everyone loves Crackdown. The sequel was first unveiled last year and apart from a rather funky trailer, there really isn't too much else known about it. Hopefully we'll hear more about how Pacific City is significantly taller, what new crazy weapons gamers will have at their disposal and what we can expect from four player co-op. It would be nice to know when this is planned to be released as well, as Microsoft will keep September clear for Halo Reach to give a younger Master Chief more of the spotlight.
Gears of War 3: Announced
Cliff Bleszinski keeps teasing something and frankly Marcus and Dom appearing in Lost Planet 2 doesn't really cut it as "Kick ass news." Gamers haven't heard anything about the Gears of War series since 2008 and surely the advertising moguls of Microsoft will want to build more buzz around this franchise at the earliest opportunity. We doubt that Epic will say anything other than they are working on the concluding chapter of this cover shooter and that it will be released sometime in 2011.
Alan Wake: Demo-ed
Remedy's attempt at a psychological thriller has been in development for absolutely ages and with the release date currently at April 13th, there's a shed-load of promotion still to be done. With E3 being far too late for Alan Wake, X10 is the best chance to give this exclusive title enough coverage to set the gaming landscape alight.
Golden Eye XBLA: Announced
Undoubtedly the most dubious entry on this list by quite a margin and even though we don't think it'll happen, games journalists can dream can't they? Perfect Dark for XBLA is already on the way and aside from the various licensing issues, gamers need to be given Rare's best shooter. If enough money is thrown at this problem, surely an appearance of the N64's most beloved multiplayer game isn't far off.
Splinter Cell: Conviction: Demo-ed
Did you know that the next Sam Fisher adventure was originally announced at X06, the first Microsoft event of its kind? Needless to say this franchise has experienced more reinventions than an ageing popstar but after the fantastic showing at E3 last year, Ubisoft are sure to trot it out once again.
Project Natal: More titles
Microsoft's attempt at a motion controller is still surrounded in mystery. How much will it cost? When will it be released? Will it actually work? Most of these answers will probably be reserved for E3 in June, but that doesn't mean there won't be any announcements about games in development for this new platform. If Molyneaux is there touting Fable 3, why not have him appear during a keynote explaining the potential of this new technology...again.
