From High Voltage Software, the team behind the Wii exclusive shooter The Conduit, comes Tournament of Legends, a 3D arena-based brawler set in the world of ancient mythology.

Become a legend in epic weapons and magic duelsFirst unveiled under the name Gladiator AD at E3 last year, Tournament of Legends was shown to be more than just a fighting game; it also introduced some role-playing game elements, including a levelling-up system and optional side-quests that you could carry out away from the main combat arenas. At that point though, Gladiator AD was seeking a publisher.
Sega stepped forward to lend its backing to High Voltage's fighter and since then things have changed dramatically. Not only has Gladiator AD's name changed to Tournament of Legends, but the game has been given more focus and is now purely an arena-based fighter. The RPG elements have been ditched in favour of fast-paced, over-the-top, weapon and magic-based combat that aims to make full use of the motion-sensing functionality of the Wii Remote and Nunchuck.

As you can see from the attached screenshots that means you'll be going head-to-head against the likes of Gladiators and Minatours across backdrops inspired by the likes of the coliseums and amphitheatres of that era.
Tournament of Legends plans to stand out from the crowd with a unique mix of weapon-based and magical combat. To give you a taster of some of the more creative combat moves, High Voltage has revealed that you'll be able to conjure up a man-eating lion, summon a deadly rain of arrows, or throw a nest of poisonous snakes at your opponent.
Much has also been made of the visual effects and the overall polished look of Tournament of Legends. Running on the Quantum 3 engine, which was also used for The Conduit, High Voltage says that the purpose built Wii engine has allowed them to create visual effects and detailed character design that you'd normally only see on Xbox 360 and PS3.
With the lack of a multiplayer mode, Tournament of Legends is really going to have to pull out all the stops in terms of gameplay to impress brawler fans on its release this May, but early signs are positive.
