"Short but sweet" might be a cliche, but it's an entirely accurate description of WiiWare hit LostWinds. Launching alongside Nintendo's download service last year, LostWinds finished just as it felt like it was really getting going, leaving many players wanting more.

And so David Braben and chums have delivered - LostWinds: Winter of the Melodias will be hitting WiiWare very soon, if a source close to Frontier is to be believed, and we're also informed that the game will be significantly longer this time, featuring a number of new mechanics as you guide Toku and his wind spirit pal Enril through the gorgeous world of Mistralis. It's been a tight squeeze getting it under WiiWare's strict 40Mb file size limit, apparently.

This time you'll be able to change the season from winter to summer and back again - freezing lakes so Toku can reach new areas, or melting them so he can dive beneath the surface. You'll be able to use Enril's power to create snowballs in mid-air, ready to hurl at enemies, while the spirit's new Cyclone ability puts enemies in a spin, and is also used to power through rock obstacles in Toku's path.

We've posted five new pics to our media section, two of which can be found embedded within this very article. It's clear that production values are just as impressive if not more so than an already eye-strokingly beautiful original, with the wintry scenes particularly delightful.

We're putting money on a release within the next six weeks. Make sure you've got some Wii Points in, folks. This one's going to be worth clearing a bit of fridge space for.
