Wii sells 7 million in 2010

Published on January 4th, 2011

Nintendo has announced the Nintendo has sold over 7 million units in North America over the past 12 months.

Despite competition from Sony and Microsoft who brought new motion control devices to the market in 2010, the Wii has managed to stay afloat with lifetime sales in the U.S. topping 34 million.

Popular titles such as Super Mario Galaxy 2, Donkey Kong Country Returns and the continuing success of Wii Fit, Wii Sports Resort and New Super Mario Bros. Wii kept the system rolling through 2010.

Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime told gamers last year that the big N would talk about a successor to the Wii until the U.S. lifetime sales top 45 million units in the U.S.
