Nintendo briefly mentioned during an Investors Meeting last week that 2011 would be important anniversaries for two popular franchises.
President of Nintendo Satoru Iwata reminded investors that 2010 saw the 25th anniversary of Super Mario and that 2011 would also mark the 15th anniversary of Pokemon and oddly, the 25th anniversary of Dragon Quest.
Nintendo celebrated Super Mario’s 25th anniversary last year with the launch of Limited Edition Wii and DS systems as well as bringing the Super Mario All-Stars Collection to Wii.
No plans were mentioned but this could mean Nintendo has plans for both its own and the Square-Enix franchise to celebrate their anniversaries, possibly together.
We’d also like to point out to Nintendo that this year also marks the 25th anniversary of both The Legend of Zelda and Metroid.
Sega’s Sonic the Hedgehog will also be celebrating his 20th this year.
