Nintendo EAD boss Shigeru Miyamoto has suggested that 3DS consoles could be used as additional controllers for the firm’s upcoming Wii U console.
“Our basic premise is that you can use one (controller) with a system,” said Miyamoto talking to News.com.au.
“If we got to an idea of having multiple (controllers) it might be just more convenient for people to use their Nintendo 3DS and have a way to connect that.
“That being said, we are doing research about if someone brings their controller to their friends house and they want to play together on Wii U to whether or not something like that would be possible.”
3DS in conjunction with Wii U? Certainly sounds appealing to us.
Though it still hasn’t been completely clarified by Nintendo, most reports state that only one Wii U controller can be used with each Wii U console, forcing additional players to use existing Wii Remotes for multiplayer games.
Wii U, which was announced by the firm on Tuesday, is the next home console on the way from Nintendo. The console features a 6.2″ touchscreen controller and is capable of 1080p-level graphics.
A price and release date for the Wii U is yet to officially be announced by Nintendo. Yesterday, however, UK retailer Zavvi estimated that the machine would cost 399 GBP.
Wii U is due to launch in 2012.
