Buzz! Brain Bender

Everyone's favourite Aussie returns to PSP, swapping quizzes for puzzles in this Brain Training clone.

Written by David Scammell, 08 July 2009

It's with very little surprise that Sony seek to emulate the overwhelming success of that seen by Nintendo's Brain Training series, and who better to host such an endeavour than spunky Aussie quiz show host, Buzz?

Of course, Sony's decision to use Buzz as their puzzle front-man may leave many scratching their heads for more reasons than one. Brain Bender is a very different offering to that of the previous games in the series, with question cards replaced with brainteasers in a quest to test your brain matter.

Though benefiting from the PSP's Brain Bender follows a similar format to Dr. Kawashima's DS efforts. Puzzles are broken down into four different categories: Observation, Memory, Analysis and Calculation, with answers selected via the PSP's four face buttons, and timing and accuracy affecting your final score.

Multiplayer options are restricted to passing the PSP between friends rather than full WiFi functionality, yet nonetheless prove to be fun, as players battle it out to be crowned the king of intellect.

While Buzz! Brain Bender may simply be a mere imitation of Nintendo's triumphant Brain Training series, its presentation and fun factor ensure that it's a worthy alternative for any PSP gamers looking for a cerebral workout.
