John Koller, Sony's director of hardware marketing, has claimed Apple's iPad will create a positive effect for his company's own PSP handheld.
In an interview with the Wall Street Journal, Koller said "Apple's entrance into the portable gaming space has been a net positive for Sony,"
"When people want a deeper, richer console, they start playing on a PSP." Koller went on.
PSP sales have tripled since Apple's iPhone launch in 2007, with PSP and PSPGo shifting 254000 units in December 2009.
Nintendo have also chipped in on the argument, with president Saturo Iwata labelling the iPad nothing more than a "big iPod touch".
The iPad launches in 57 days, with the full support of the App store and backing from EA.
