WARNING: This series of previews aims to dissect consecutive scenes of Heavy Rain in great detail, potentially spoiling major plot points. Today's preview details the fourth scene of the game in explicit detail. If you want the Heavy Rain experience kept entirely fresh, look away NOW.

Heavy Rain's fourth scene marks the first time that we step out of the shoes of Ethan Mars and into the role of Scott Shelby, a private detective on the hunt for the Origami Killer.
We're told that it's 11:14pm on a Tuesday, and it's raining heavily. The camera appears to be resting on a street curb as a car pulls up alongside it. We're asked to open the driver's door with a flick on the right analogue stick. Shelby steps out and the camera switches to a view looking down on the car and the building we've parked outside. It's a grotty looking motel. We head inside.

Ring any bells?" asks Shelby. "Nah, can't say it does," the clerk responds, as he continues to read his newspaper. Shelby pulls a five dollar bill out of his wallet. "Oh, that Lauren Winter? Third floor, last door on the left", he replies.
We climb the stairs and head down the corridor. The motel truly is a sleazy place - the doors are scratched and wallpaper has been replaced by graffiti. We knock on Lauren's door, but she quickly brushes us off, telling us she "only sees clients by appointment". A quick flick of the right stick pushes the door forward as Shelby tells her to wait. "50 bucks", she says. "I don't kiss and I don't do any weird shit". "That's fine by me," says Shelby.
She invites us in and walks over to her bed. 50 bucks buys us ten minutes, she says, and when the alarm goes, we're out of there. We put our money on the table and walk over. "You should take your clothes off - we ain't got all day," she says. Shelby tells her that he isn't a customer, and she works out that he's a cop. Presuming she's going to get in trouble, she offers him a freebie. He explains that he's investigating the murders of the Origami Killer and wants to ask her some questions. She asks him to leave her alone. We're given options to talk to her, with her answers implying that she found her son dead on a wasteland. We anger her and she tells us to leave. Shelby leaves his card and walks out the door.
As he wanders back down the corridor Shelby struggles for breath and has to lean up against a wall to support himself. He struggles in his pocket for his inhaler as a man walks past. "Open up baby, it's me," the man says, knocking on Lauren's door. Lauren identifies him as a man named Troy. She asks what he's doing here. The man pushes his way inside and we hear screams for help. Shelby knocks on the door. Troy opens, aggressively questioning him as to what he wants. Shelby looks past Troy and sees Lauren lying on the floor. He asks if everything's alright. "She's just swell, now beat it," replies Troy. Shelby kicks down the door and a struggle breaks out between the two. After a lengthy QTE, Shelby forces Troy to back off, and the man makes a run for it, telling him that he'll "see him again".
Lauren explains to Shelby that he's an ex-client and thanks him for helping her. Shelby leaves her room and limps down the corridor.
The screen fades to black.
