Following on from the news that Rockstar's next big open-world action adventure, L.A. Noire, will now appear on Xbox 360 as well as PS3, the March issue of Game Informer has also revealed the first snippets of information regarding the gameplay.

As the main character, Cole Phelps, you'll be tasked with investigating crimes as you rise up the career ladder from traffic cop to the murder squad. A significant chunk of the gameplay will involve solving crimes so you'll be tasked with scouring crime scenes for the tiniest of clues and interrogating people for information that might lead to the arrest of the criminal.

IGN has managed to grab an early copy of Game Informer, revealing a few details about the interrogation system.

"The new facial motion capturing system sets actors alone in a giant room with cameras all around. In full make-up, the actor delivers their dialogue. Every facial moment is recorded, from the most exaggerate of motions to the slightest twitch of an eye. The dialogue is recorded at this time as well, creating a seamless scene. All of this is then translated into a 3D game landscape with no animators needed. The result? According to GI, it's a picture-perfect rendering of the actor's scene. That's important to the gameplay."

During interrogations this means that you'll have to study facial expressions and form an opinion as to whether they're lying or telling the truth. You'll be able to use notes from your inventory that you've gathered while investigating crimes scenes to challenge their evidence and then make a decision as to whether to accuse them of the crime or not.

No details have been revealed about the action side of LA Noire, but Game Informer has leaked some information regarding the setting. Apparently, the City of Angels has been modelled with painstaking historical accuracy on the LA of the 1940's. "Don't expect the "shoot everyone" mentality of a Grand Theft Auto title this is something completely different," writes IGN.

Expect the hype metre to rise to astronomical proportions when LA Noire is unveiled at E3 in the summer.
