IO Interactive has said that Kane & Lynch's "mixed reviews" and the "gamer revolt" held against them after the Gerstmanngate scandal was "quite a blow for the studio", but that they felt the backlash was "definitely" justified.
Talking to GamerZines last month about Kane & Lynch 2, the game's lead designer Mads Prahm told us that "in many ways we feel that we deserve a better chance."
"It was quite a blow for the studio to see the mixed reviews, especially with the whole gamer revolt after the Gerstmanngate. That was a really big blow for the studio, and we felt that we could do better, that we had something to prove."
Mads also admitted that he recognised that there were problems with the original game, but that he didn't think "they were as big as they were made out to be". When asked whether the studio recognised that there were problems with the game and whether the media backlash was justified, Mads commented:

I don't think they were as big as they were made out to be - I think a lot of that media controversy amplified it. But we took the feedback that was fair really seriously and we've made a lot of changes at the studio to be better at handling feedback before the game is released."
So how are they going to implement that for the game's successor?
"With Kane & Lynch 2 we've had gamers in every other week to play the game, from the very early prototype to the almost finished game that we have now, and we take that feedback really seriously. I think that's something we learned from all of this, that we have to be a little more humble and a bit more careful."
