Sony have released the sales figures for their flagship car simulation franchise, Gran Turismo. Unsurprisingly the numbers are staggering with the first game's sales totalling over ten million, yet it was still marginally out sold by the fourth title in the decade old series which was closer to eleven million.
The full figures are shown below:
Gran Turismo - 10,850,000
Gran Turismo 2 - 9,370,000
Gran Turismo 3 A-spec - 14,890,000
Gran Turismo Concept Series - 1,560,000

Gran Turismo 4 - 10,980,000
Gran Turismo 5 "Prologue" - 4,650,000
Gran Turismo PSP - 1,800,000
Total - 55,450,000
Perhaps the biggest surprise is how many copies of GT5: Prologue have been shifted off store shelves despite being a glorified demo, which at time of writing is close to five million.
Sony already have the purchases of Prologue buyers secured for the final version of GT5 and with proper marketing there's no reason that it can't become the best selling title in the long running series.
Gran Turismo 5 is rumoured to launch during the latter half of 2010 for PS3.
