Though Killzone 3 hasn't even been officially confirmed it's pretty much inevitable that the popular first person shooter is in development, right? The official PS3 magazine has written about it in the rumours sections and predictions as to its arrival have been made across the web ever since the arrival of Killzone 2.Well, we thought we'd join in the fun.

And we're pretty sure that our predictions will be as close as most will get to the truth about the big Killzone 3 unveil and release date.

This isn't going to happen though. There's no way that Sony will want to go up against any of Microsoft's exclusive franchises. Not because it wouldn't win, we couldn't possibly know that, but because it'll want Killzone 3 to bathe in its own limelight for as long as possible with no other big games to over-shadow it. This is exactly what it did when it decided to release Killzone 2 in late February 2009. Sony even waited until January that year to announce a firm release date so that it was sure that it wouldn't be up against a big rival game - it wanted Killzone 2 to be a PS3 system seller.

We've got no reason to believe that Sony won't do exactly the same thing again with Killzone 3, choosing to release the game to coincide with the two year anniversary of Killzone 2 at the end of February 2011. We're also predicting that we'll see a pre-rendered short teaser trailer sometime in the next couple of months ahead of Killzone 3's big E3 unveiling. We'll probably get a few snippets of information ahead of the event, but it will be at the LA Convention centre where the gaming press will first get to go hands-on with the highly anticipated third game in the series.

We don't profess to have any inside knowledge about Killzone 3, we don't even know if it's is in development for sure, but we're quietly confident that our release date prediction will be very close to the mark.

Predicted Killzone 3 release date: February 26, 2011.
