We may have all been lounging around the living room, stuffing our faces with chocolates and yule log while granny was singing along to Cliff Richard in the kitchen, but that didn't stop the gaming world from turning.
Here's a round-up of what occured in the gaming world during the festive period:
Capcom delays Lost Planet 2, Super Street Fighter IV and Monster Hunter Tri
To "avoid competing with the major titles the other companies plan to introduce", Capcom has delayed three of their biggest titles originally due in the first quarter of this year, choosing to "strategically" release them across all four quarters leading up to March 2011. The Japanese firm also intends to cut back on hiring Western development studios following the difficulties experienced with last year's Bionic Commando.
GTA V to be unveiled at E3, reckons analyst
EEDAR's Jesse Divnich thinks that Rockstar will show "some type of teaser" for a new Grand Theft Auto game at this year's E3, "because we do think that a year from then in 2011 we're going to see another Grand Theft Auto." Divnich doesn't expect to see any form of exclusivity deals announced though, a la the Microsoft/Episodes From Liberty City arrangement:
"I don't foresee Microsoft or Sony attempting to obtain any type of exclusivity with the next Grand Theft Auto. Microsoft paid a lot of money for exclusivity on the downloadable content for GTA IV, which unfortunately did little to move consoles for Microsoft."
Gears of War hits Xbox Live Games on Demand
Epic's epic third person shooter hit Xbox Live's Games on Demand service over the Christmas period, available to download now for £19.99. A must if you like big guns, big men and even bigger baddies.
Heavy Rain coming Feb 26th?
That's the word on the street kids, following a few retailer listings hinting at Heavy Rain's imminent release. And if that is the case, the PS3-only title will be going toe-to-toe with 360-exclusive Splinter Cell Conviction. But which will reign supreme in the battle to the top of the charts?
Leaked vid shows Half-Life 2 being played on Natal
You didn't just think you'd be stuck playing dodgeball with Natal, did you? A blurry video that leaked onto the net a few days after Christmas shows a supposed Microsoft employee playing Half-Life 2 via Natal, and it looks semi-convincing and terrifically Minority Report. Natal launches later in the year.
EA shutting down servers for old sports titles
February 2nd will be the last opportunity you'll get to play the following games online, so if you still need any of those achievements, get to work now, soldier!
