The next game from Ubisoft Montreal takes the best of Assassin’s Creed and Deus Ex.
If you’ve been keeping track of Twitter or Reddit after last night’s Ubisoft press conference one name is attracting more praise than perhaps any other and that’s Ubisoft Montreal’s new big release, Watch Dogs.
The live gameplay demo (which can be seen below) consists of a Rorschach look-a-like protagonist using the world’s connected technology against the populous of a near-future version of Chicago in order to meet his own objectives. Players can scan passers-by learning their secrets, hack into nearby phones, control automated travel by assuming control of trains and changing traffic lights, and jam local communications.
It’s hard not to get an Assassin’s Creed-vibe from proceedings especially as the demo focused on the protagonist killing a target called Demarco and the necessity of roughing up troublesome ‘muscle’. It’s undoubtedly the open-world aspect which is getting people excited though, with gamers seemingly able to toy with their surrounding area in ways which would make Batman blush.
Watch Dogs doesn’t have a release date as of yet, but the open-world stealth-em-up will appear on PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
