The one rule of Fight Club is…
A trio of old arcade fighters have rated for release on Xbox Live Arcade by Sega Europe.
Sega Saturn brawlers Virtua Fighter 2 and Fighting Vipers have both been rated, launching back in arcades in 1994 and 1995 respectively.
Virtua Fighter recently saw a resurgence of interest with the release of Virtua Fighter V: Final Showdown on digital platforms and its cast has made cameos appearances in Tecmo Koei’s Dead or Alive 5.
Fighting Vipers has been in hibernation since the Dreamcast sequel hit in 2001 but was ported to the PlayStation 2 in Japan.
The odd ball here is Sonic the Fighters, a beat-em-up featuring Sonic characters and mechanics borrowed from the Virtua Fighter series. The game was released exclusively in arcades in Japan and in some areas of North America.
Sonic the Fighters resurfaced years later in Sonic Gems Collection released on PlayStation 2 and Nintendo Gamecube.
Sega has yet to officially announce any of the three brawlers but given its recent digital push for its legacy titles, expect to see these appear on Xbox Live Arcade, PlayStation Network, and PC in the coming months.
