New standalone instalment in the open-world gangster series.
Today THQ has announced that a new Saints Row game will be released on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC this summer.
The standalone expansion, officially titled Saints Row: The Third – Enter the Dominatrix, kicks off immediately after the events of the previous game’s campaign with the titular gang trapped in a virtual reality simulation of Steelport, thanks to the actions of an evil alien warlord called Zinyak.
You’d be forgiven for thinking this is actually some kind of joke, but it ties perfectly into a series which has never really taken itself seriously…
“Faster than a speeding cyber jetbike, more powerful than a roided-out Luchadore, able to leap flying aircraft carriers in a single bound… That’s the power you’ll find inside the Dominatrix. Use it for good. Use it for evil. Use it for whatever you want. As always in Saints Row, it’s up to you,” explained a very excited Danny Bilson, THQ’s head of core game production.
“With a franchise with more than 11 million units shipped globally, it’s incredibly gratifying to have the flexibility to give Saints Row fans the features they want most.”
Interestingly Volition previously hinted that they were working on a game which was based loosely on the Matrix during a noteworthy April Fool’s Day post via their official website, but everyone assumed they were joking – well who’s laughing now?
Unfortunately no screenshots of this expansion have been released but we expect more news about this new Saints Row experience will be revealed over the coming weeks.
Saints Row: The Third was one of the craziest balls to the wall releases of last year and we’re looking forward to seeing how this expansion can take that formula and make it even crazier. We have faith Volition won’t let us down!
