‘PlayStation definitely has momentum’ says Sony UK.
Sony has announced that the PlayStation 3 has now sold over five million units in the UK.
The PlayStation 3 first launched in the UK in March 2007, taking the system over five years to reach this milestone in the UK.
“It is fantastic that we passed the 5m mark,” said Sony UK’s managing director Fergal Gara.
“But most importantly to me is not the milestone itself, but the fact that there is momentum behind it. And with the new chassis, and the way the market is panning out this year, PlayStation definitely has the momentum.”
Since launching in 2007, the PlayStation 3 has undergone various transformations including a hollowed out version of the “fat” PS3 that removed PS2 backwards compatibility and the PS3 Slim that launched in 2009
Sales of the system spiked with the arrival of its latest PS3 revision, appearing on shelves last month.
