X-men: First Class star to co-produce Ubisoft Motion Pictures project.
Hollywood actor Michael Fassbender has been revealed as the star and co-producer of the the silverscreen adaptation of Assassin’s Creed.
The Prometheus and X-Men: First Class star will reportedly co-produce the movie through his own company, DMC Films in collaboration with Ubisoft Motion Pictures.
Reports have suggested the film will be based on the original Assassin’s Creed meaning Fassbender would be cast in the role of Palestinian assassin Altair, rather than Florentine nobleman Ezio Auditore who has starred in three titles in the franchise or Native American Connor Kenway, the upcoming lead in Assassin’s Creed 3.
“Michael Fassbender was our first choice,” said Ubisoft Motion Pictures boss Jean-Julien Baronnet. “Michael is an extremely smart, talented, versatile and committed actor.”
Talks with Sony Pictures fell through last year due to Ubisoft’s high demands for its triple-A franchise.
Ubisoft says it will resume talks once its own Motion Pictures team has found a director and writer.
“We’re open to re-discuss with the key studios once the production package is finalized,” said Baronnet.
