Sony’s Super Smash Bros. is real | First screens insideThe rumours were true: Sony’s Super Smash Bros. game is real and is currently in development for PlayStation 3 at newly-formed independent studio Robot Entertainment.

Titled ‘PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale’, the game lets up to four players brawl as characters from across PlayStation’s history, including Kratos, Sweet Tooth, Parappa, Fat Princess, Colonel Radec, and Sly Cooper.

A variety of characters from third-party games will also be included, although there’s no mention of which ones will make the cut.

“PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale is the ultimate four-player brawler, influenced by some of the greatest PlayStation themes and characters of all time,” said Sony.

“With a host of playable characters, special attacks, themed stages, and mash up music, PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale pits players in a deep fighting game that draws inspiration through the colourful PlayStation universe.”

A PlayStation brawler similar to Super Smash Bros. was first rumoured earlier this year after alleged photos of its development leaked online.

Then, on Monday, the rumours hit the headlines once again when Sony registered the domain PLAYSTATIONALLSTARSBATTLEROYALE.COM, and promised the reveal of a “huge new PS3 exclusive” later in the week.

Who’d have guessed?

PlayStation All Stars Battle Royale is due to launch this Christmas exclusively on PlayStation 3.
