The boss of PlayStation France has explained that he believes Sony will announce their next-gen console plans after Microsoft.
In an interview with LePoint.fr (translated by VG247), Philippe Cardone responded with the following when asked about the possibility of a PlayStation 4.
“It’s true that there are a lot of rumours, but I couldn’t tell you anything,” teased the coy CEO.
“Wii is pressed for time because it’s in decline. In our case, we have a lot less pressure. We were the last to release PS3, and we will probably be the last to announce something.”
For the benefit of the uninitiated, Nintendo has already confirmed that their follow-up to the Wii, confusingly titled WiiU, will be released this year whereas Microsoft has yet to commit to a new console, although an E3 reveal is strongly rumoured.
Sony was the last of the ‘big three’ to get their hardware to market in the current console generation, yet the PlayStation 3 has still racked up over 55.6 million unit sales since launch.
Judging from today’s comments, gamers should expect a similar move from Sony’s games brand in the next console arms race.
