Only just picked up this year’s Call of Duty? Well, it’s time to start getting excited for the next one.
A job listing for a Gameplay Engineer at Sledgehammer Games has revealed that the studio’s upcoming Call of Duty title will feature "intense moment to moment action" and bring "player immersion to a new level".
"Sledgehammer Games is looking for an exceptional gameplay engineer to join our talented team," reads the job ad.
"The candidate will be involved in the creation of gameplay moments and gameplay related features for an unannounced high-end console title, bringing areas such as enemy setups, intense moment to moment action, and player immersion to a new level."
Unannounced? That sounds like good ol’ Call of Duty to us. Indeed, earlier in the advertisement, the text says that the studio is "actively recruiting top talent for our Call of Duty First Person Shooter development team."
Sledgehammer Games was founded by Activision in late 2009 and is run by ex-Visceral top men Glen Schofield and Michael Condrey – the pair who created EA’s top survival horror Dead Space.
The studio is currently known to be working on a first-person Call of Duty game.
Though it’s not yet known which developer will be behind next year’s Call of Duty, which Activision has already confirmed will launch "in the back half of 2011", given Infinity Ward’s implosion, it’s likely to be Sledgehammer.
Call of Duty: Black Ops, developed by World at War developer Treyarch, released last week on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC and Wii.
