Remember those ‘video games are art’ debates? Well, here’s another title to take into consideration when the conversation rears its head again – and it’s not quite the game you’d usually associate with such a discussion.
In the words of Sledgehammer boss Glen Schofield, Modern Warfare 3 “is art”.
“Call of Duty and the Modern Warfare series is a fictitious story,” Schofield said, talking to XG247. “It’s something we’ve made up, it’s fantasy.
“This is putting you in the middle of a massive blockbuster entertainment piece and you’re the star now. And so, when we’re writing these stories, we’re not thinking about how far we can take it, we have respect for everything that goes on in the world but we are making the story up.
“This isn’t for lack of respect of anybody, it’s just, this is art.”
Schofield told us last month that he was a painter in his spare time, so this could well just be his way of explaining the creative process involved in shaping Modern Warfare 3′s story rather than jumping on any ‘games are art’ bandwagons.
But nonetheless, would you describe Call of Duty as art?
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 launches on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii and PC on November 8th.
