Infinity Ward’s Robert Bowling has attempted to clarify Raven Software’s involvement with the Call of Duty franchise, telling GamerZines that the team has “supported Treyarch with DLC and helped out with random user interface and engineering tasks”, while reiterating that they’ll also be helping out with Modern Warfare 3 “in the same capacity”.
Up until now, Raven’s involvement with Call of Duty has been shrouded in secrecy, despite confirmation of their work on the franchise surfacing back in March.
Rumours last year pointed to Raven having created multiplayer maps for Call of Duty: Black Ops’ DLC. It looks like they might be true…
But though they appear to have a smaller role, Raven, of course, is one of three teams contributing to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.
The game is currently being co-developed by Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer Games, something which Bowling says has been “beneficial”.
“The same can be said about bringing in Sledgehammer Games,” said Bowling while talking to us about the opportunity of getting a fresh perspective on the franchise, “who come from a very different background and who have added a lot to things like the storytelling and the way that we do things that have been beneficial.
“It’s co-development across the board as if we were one team. We’re all checking into the same tree and we’re all building off the same builds, so there’s never been a clear divide of ‘this is yours, this is ours, don’t touch this, don’t touch that’. It’s across the board of playing to each others strengths and weaknesses.”
Modern Warfare 3 launches on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC on November 8th.
