Sony has assured customers of its PlayStation Network service that its credit card data was in fact encrypted.
In a message posted on the PlayStation blog, Sony said that whilst they had discovered no evidence that credit card data had been stolen, they cannot rule this out as a possibility.
This does not include other personal data such as addresses, emails and passwords which were not encrypted.
As the PSN outage continues, Sony is hoping to relaunch the service on May 3.
