Sledgehammer Games’ CEO Glen Schofield has clarified recent reports suggesting that the ‘aging architecture’ of current-generation consoles is holding back Call of Duty, saying that his comments were taken “completely out of context”.
“It had nothing to do with it,” said Schofield when GamerZines asked whether his comments about some ideas for MW3 being ‘too big’ for current consoles were referring to the capabilities of the current gen.
“The point that they were asking was, do you have more ideas that you can’t get into the game. Yeah, we always do. Sometimes it’s resources, sometimes it’s frame rate, so no, the PS3 is not holding me back.”
PlayStation Lifestyle ran a story last month with the headline ‘PS3′s Aging Hardware is Limiting Call of Duty Says Sledgehammer CEO’, prompting online chatter that a new generation of hardware was needed to get the most out of the series; something Schofield refutes.
“We’ll find new ways to get more out of it,” he continued.
“When the new consoles come out, in the very beginning you’re not going to know what to do with them. So it takes a while to get into it. But yeah, I really appreciated that. Luckily I know the guys at Sony pretty well!”
