The PlayStation 3 has sold over 50 million systems since launching in 2006.
Sony Computer Entertainment announced the news this morning saying their flagship system reached this milestone on March 29, 2011.
The PS3 launched in the US in November 2006 and in Europe on March 2007.
Sony added that over 8 million PlayStation Move controllers have been sold since launching last September.
Rival device Microsoft’s Kinect reached this goal in a much shorter time frame of just two months.
As of March 2011, PlayStation Network has more than 75 million registered accounts operating in 59 countries and regions.
