Irrational Games never released a game on PlayStation 2, and this might be the reason why – the BioShock creator thought Sony’s console was "a pain in the butt" to develop for.
In a document published on the developer’s site yesterday detailing a pitch for unreleased game Monster Island, Irrational said that they thought the "XBox is probably the easiest (to develop for), PS2 is a pain in the butt, and who knows about Gamecube?"
Not Irrational, apparently – the team stuck to releasing PC games until the launch of BioShock on Xbox 360 in 2007.
Monster Island was originally pitched to publishers as "Rampage meets Black and White Creatures in a Fully Destructible Environment". Shame no one picked it up as, by the looks of it, it would have been awesome.
Irrational’s next project, BioShock Infinite, launches on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC in 2012.
