Battlefield 3 will not include support for local couch co-op, DICE has confirmed. Instead, gamers wishing to play through the game’s co-op mode will have to head online with a friend.
The news came via DICE’s VP and GM Karl Magnus Troedsson, who revealed to GamingLives that Battlefield 3′s co-op is “built on separate maps” to the game’s campaign.
“We discussed this quite a bit if it was going to be single-player co-op where you play through the story and everything, but we decided to build more specific co-op missions,” said Troedsson.
“Naturally you will recognise some of the environments but they are built specifically for the co-op with all the scripting, events and everything.”
Troedsson also confirmed that Battlefield 3′s co-op will only ship with six maps, despite previous reports suggesting it would ship with ten, and that each co-op mission will take players between 20-45 minutes to complete.
Battlefield 3′s co-op mode was revealed during EA’s Gamescom press conference yesterday alongside a new multiplayer map ‘Caspian Border’.
Battlefield 3 ships on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC on October 28th.
