Just hours after Microsoft proudly announced its Kinect sensor had sold 2.5 million units, Sony has blown it out the water saying that its motion controller ‘Playstation Move’ has topped 4.1 million sales since launching in late September.
Given that it had a head start of over six weeks, Move reached this milestone in just two months since its release in Europe and the US with Japan getting into motion control last month.
Sony has yet to provide details as to how many of these controllers were purchased alongside the peripherals navigation controller or how many were sold as Starter Packs or even bundled with new systems.
"The number not only shows clear success of the launch of the new motion sensing controller but also indicates positive momentum going in to the holiday season and to the year 2011," reads an official press release from Sony.
The Move controllers success has been attributed to a more varied launch line up including Sports Champions as well as backward compatible titles such as Resident Evil 5 and Heavy Rain.
2011 is set to be a far more successful year for the motion controller with both Killzone 3 and LittleBigPlanet 2 confirmed to use Move.
