BioWare has surprised gamers by revealing the upcoming PlayStation 3 release of Mass Effect 2 will be running on the newly developed engine for Mass Effect 3.
Producer of the the PS3 version of the 2010 award winner said during a BioWare Blog Podcast that they took all the content from Mass Effect 2 and put them into the new engine.
"We’ve actually created the engine for Mass Effect 3 and use that to make Mass Effect 2 PS3." said Houston.
"So we took the content and the story and all the other assets that made up Mass Effect 2 and we put them in the Mass Effect 3 engine. And that’s what we are actually delivering."
It was recently confirmed that Mass Effect 3 will launch on Xbox 360, PC and PS3 in holiday 2011.
Mass Effect 2 launches on PS3 on January 21st 2011, the Xbox 360 and PC versions are available now.
